Review of Darkness Falls (2003) by Jacob D — 07 Jan 2010
The movie starts off really strong with a terrifying opening sequence brimming childhood nightmares and a sense of horror nostalgia. But soon as we move to present day the film takes a bit of a nosedive.
The main problem with Darkness Falls is that the melodrama of the film is played out draggingly and comes across a bit uninteresting. However the film ultimately returns to the slam bang way it open. The action horror sequences are fun and scary and the concept is clever and entertaining.
Sure it's the tooth fairy but you have to get them credit for how much success they had with the overall product. the performances are all decent with a stand out one from emma Caufield and the creature effects from the late great Stan winston are respectable.
the film is also dressed with a big orchestra hollywood score which elevates the events way above what they should be. Say what you will although intensely flawed with some major missteps in logic the film makes for a fun if unfocused scary popcorn flick.
