Review of Darkman (1990) by Christopher S — 26 Sep 2007
I love this movie. It's one of the better superhero flicks out there. I like Darkman because he isn't your typical superhero. He was just a normal scientist one day then a scarred human the next. He can't feel anything due to a surgical procedure that was done to him, which makes him more appealing. He's highly intelligent & clever & uses that over brawn although he does get in some scuffles. And plus, Liam Neeson is just plain awesome. What a great actor. And we have the great Larry Drake as Durant, a very memorable villain. A finger collector. Ted Raimi is flaming as Rick. Colin Friels as Strack is your typical rich, evil tycoon but is great in his role. He's hilarious at the end with the railgun. What a nutsack. I heard there was a scene where he gets naked on his bed & rolls around a bunch of gold coins. Now that's fucking hilarious.
You can tell this is a Raimi movie by all of the weird shit that goes on it as well as the slapstickish humor that he does so very well. A trademark of Raimi's. And of course, Bruce Campbell as Peyton at the very end. Another trademark of Sam's. The claymation effects were pretty sweet too.
My favourite part is when Peyton flips out & breaks the carnie's fingers. Pure amazingness right there.
"Take the fucking elephant! ".
