Review of Darkman (1990) by Derrick J — 30 Apr 2009
This was a fun and energetic movie. Sam Raimi, Liam Neeson, Frances McDormand, and Larry Drake make this movie work well. It's a little rough but it's still able to show Darkman/Peyton Westlake's slow descent to madness.
It's an early 90's movie so the FX looks pretty rough in some parts by today's standards but I'm forgiving enough to see the positive aspects of it. It's got a certain goofiness or campy side to it, and it's pretty apparent in some scenes.
But it's not too campy like certain other superhero movies, it's got a good balance of it which is the norm in Sam Raimi's films. Also, I guess I'm a bit of a sucker for those late 80's-early 90's action and superhero flicks.
