Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Matt R — 20 Dec 2017
Churchill is wonderfully performed by Oldman, a sympathetic & kindly vision of Britain's great war leader, nuanced & impeccably researched - Oldman will have a flurry of award nominations. This film however focusses on Churchill to the detriment of female characters, woefully written in as bit-parts which jars.
Stylistically well shot with Ben Mendelssohn & Stephane Dillane adding drama & depth to appreciating that jumping into a war wasn't a decision taken lightly. Found the lighting & colour a little odd - but a side note to a super film!
