Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Dae J — 11 Jan 2018
This is a biopic of Winston Churchill during the beginning of world war ii. To me this film captures the hardship and difficulties of politics behind what goes on during the war, a personal struggle of a person who wants to do the right thing. A standout performance from actor Gary Oldman, he carries the story throughout the movie.
For a biopic, even though I was invested in the characters of the movie, I wasn't emotionally moved or inspired perhaps because they were far away from immanent danger, unlike the movie 'Dunkirk' that came out last year. Also, since it's a British film I had hard time understanding their dialogues, I wish there was a subtitles ??. Other than those issues, I had good time watching the movie. It's not must see movie in theater but if you see a DVD or Netflix and you like biopic movies, this is good one to discover.
