Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Nadjib R — 13 Jan 2018
First and foremost, before I say anything about the film I just want to point out that Gary Oldman's performance is beyond a shadow of doubt a force of nature, a sight to behold if you will, what I'm about to say WILL NOT do justice to this brilliant man's rendition of Winston Churchill, having said that, While Darkest hour has its merits but the personification of Churchill by Oldman steals the show, hell, it is the show itself, Oldman succeed amazingly in showcasing the true essence of Churchill, from his mannerism to his acquired courage and wisdom, it is extremely hard to talk about the film without mentioning Oldman but the whole feel and vibe of the movie was perfectly staged for this performance.
Oldman's performance is exceptionally convincing and gripping and at times very refreshing, with that in mind, Darkest Hour is arguably Oldman's best work to date and for that, he MUST be awarded handsomely with an Oscar and if that doesn't happen it will be a true crime.
