Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Gareth W — 14 Jan 2018
No film is perfect but this is as near to a flawless interpretation of our greatest leader, made all the more poignant as we know his flaws but despite them he is the leader in our hour of need.
This is less a war movie and more about the power of politics, the wiles of Parliament and the spellbinding effect of oratory delivered to perfection.
"He mobilised the English language and sent it into battle".
"We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender,".
