The best film I've seen all year: a very compelling take on the emotional weight under-taken by Prime Minister Churchill at a time when he had every reason to doubt his pre-determined inclinations concerning the merciless power of Nazi Germany. The film is about how he breaks through those barriers of doubt within himself and his beloved country, and arrives at the decision he does, through pain-staking mental gymnastics.
Gary Oldman's performance is brilliant, of course, and is aided by the sterling direction of Joe Wright, who has an eye for societal guilt being the impetus for individual choices. The risk of decision-making and the consequences they bestow are artfully presented under Wright's direction.
