Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Jeremiah F — 16 Feb 2018
This historical feature film is dominated by Gary Oldman's impressive acting skills as Winston Churchill. This movie feels small and intimate, candid and strong. Winston's nervousness, imperfection, and willingness to push through it is shown throughout the film and brought to life by Oldman.
What really drags it down, though, are the parts without Winston Churchill. It fails to make any other interesting or relatable characters outside of the Prime Minister and suffers heavily for it, another major problem also being the accents which seems to be the only weak part of Oldman's role and is sometimes difficult to understand.
Overall a mediocre film that is made good by Gary Oldman and his performance.
