Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Simon T — 28 Feb 2018
Playing like a bizarre fusion of Monty Python and a Viz strip, this at times grotesque historical parody features a completely miscast Gary Oldman and a long parade of British actors lisping and stammering as if subtle film acting had gone out of style. The long litany of embarrassments includes a clunking and cliche-ridden screenplay, a dull score and several toe-curling sequences. Only Ronald Pickup, Lily James and David Schofied escape with their reputations intact.
