Review of Dark Water (2007) by Blæke W — 02 Feb 2011
Some great acting in this, with Pete Postelthwaite everybodies fav, Tim Roth whom does an effectionate family lawyer role and Jenifer Connoly leading in a superb subdued character displaying a position of strength, thrilling us with stand off new york style resilliance getting through tougher times bringing up her daughter after a separation.
Synopsis: team mother, daughter get to house hunting for their independence after a parental split forces custudy squobbles and lawyers are called. Their 'not nearly dream flat' has its ups an benifits but things start getting tense when a strange leak in their ceiling points out a few short commings and following like bad luck to her detachment troubles and the daughter, 'Ceci' problems at school get her to breaking strains as headaches, lack of sleep and lack of help around the apartment add up her needs culminating emotional thrills with other strange happenings.
Dramatic and slightly hair curling moments create an emotional thriller worthy of the cast lineup but is an ordinary film overall. Good there was no unessesary gore. Direction rather relying on tense realism unrelenting and causing compassion leaving you wide open to a change of expectations and outcome, outta left field.
