Review of Dark Water (1980) by Joel N — 17 Jul 2009
Wow, some of the smartest people in American film are on this movie and they still managed to balls it up. Walter Salles' theme poem of divorce is mostly faithful to the Japanese original, but lifeless somehow. The DP has a field day in this environment, but I get the sense that everyone else wasn't having much fun.
A pretty bleak story is bolstered slightly by the ending.
