Review of Dark Was the Night (2015) by Dave W — 24 Feb 2016
Kevin Durand did a much better job with his brooding character than the script should have allowed. This was a rendition of JAWS in the woods. Jack Heller must've figured if not seeing the shark worked for Spielberg, it'll work for me.
Much of this film is cliche'd pieces of other works but there is a texture that keeps fooling you into thinking something cool is about to happen.... except it doesn't. It turns from a moody suspenseful yarn into a creature feature with less than impressive creature design but don't worry, there's a twilight zone twist at the end that's supposed to tip in the net.
If only the film was worth the ending credits design.
