Review of Dark Star (1974) by Russ M — 10 Aug 2007
I am head-over-heels in love with this movie. So low budget. So funny. So seventies. Dan O'Bannon (who penned the original "Alien") stars as the accidental loser of a spaced-out crew on a universal mission that is apparently important enough to exist but not important enough that the authorities back home can send them requested supplies due to "cutbacks".
Written and directed by John Carpenter in film school, this was extended into a feature by 1974 and has garnered a massive cult following ever since. Pays homage to 2001, pre-dates Star Wars and Close Encounters.
