Review of Dark Skies (2013) by Trent W — 06 Jun 2013
Is it just me or was the trailer for this movie frickin awesome!? It was one of those trailers where I looked over at a friend afterwards with a raised eyebrow and said, "I gotta see that." So Kudos to the editor of that trailer because you pulled off one of the greatest magic tricks of the year because "Dark Skies" was some hot garbage.
Let's talk about that script. I actually thought that everything that happened to the characters actually worked even though it seemed all too familiar. But nothing happened that made me want to care about the characters. My primary beef is with the horrible dialogue. I must've had at least 15 OMG moments where I held my forehead in frustration.
And oh the acting. Well, if you have bad dialogue bad acting is simply inevitable. Although, Dakota Goyo wasn't too bad. I'd hire him. Hey, Aronofsky did for his upcoming flick "Noah." BTW, he and Joel Courtney could play a believable brother pair in a movie later down the line. Casting departments and Aronofsky, that one was for free. Oh and J.K. Simmons always kills it.
This movie was so bad I've grown tired of frickin writing about it. Overall, it was an average Sci-Fi Thriller that proved to be a good business decision because it made its money back and then some. Respect. However, when future generations look back at our history of cinema and experience "Dark Skies" I will be looking forward to such a reply, "What the heezy was that?" And I'll be there say, "That is what we call, some HOT GARBAGE!!!" I know we all love the spectacle but let's tell more compelling stories people!!! That is all.
