Doesnt necessarily add anything to the alien abduction genre but does combine several elements from recent films to keep it somewhat relevant, most notably the Paranormal Activity series with the surveilance system set up through the house once the strange occurances start cropping up.

Also some of the tropes they bring out from the grey skins and the crop circle iconography, along with the slow burn approach harkens back to when M Night still was turning out some decent chills with Signs back in the early aughts.

One or two jumps here, not a great movie but definitely an alright trip hiding under the covers.
