Review of Dark Skies (2013) by Zackery O — 22 Jul 2013
A rather generic supernatural thriller with few or no genuine surprises as each action and reaction heavily foreshadows the following scene rendering what follows predictable. A married couple (Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton) begin observing mysterious and disturbing events around their house and family with things quickly escalating to a level of mayhem neither can endure.
After they seek out a specialist (J.K. Simmons), they cause panic in the neighborhood because of their desperate antics by shuttering up their house and alienating their one time friends and neighbors.
The film is never spooky and I attribute a lot of that to the direction as it is all an open book. Even the visiting supernatural spirit/being is never given an adequate scene with which to terrify an audience .
.. we just get random things happening. It is a disappointment because the story/idea had potential.
