Review of Dark Skies (2013) by Evan A — 11 Jun 2013
Granted, Dark Skies manages a clever build up with burning suspense and frightening tension. On the occasion it will even make you jump. With that said its plot borders on the line between predictable and silly.
Also while the main character pulls off an excellent performance, the rest of the cast don't live up to the expectation. Dark Skies is a bold gamble in the genre of sci-fi/horror and while it succeeds with some truly chilling scenes that would fit in any classic, it doesn't live up to the producer's more recent films such as Insidious, Paranormal Activity, and Sinister.
In short while the horror genre still manages to always scare the audience, no director has yet taken advantage of changing the formula even when given the opportunity and Dark Skies is sadly a good example.
