Review of Dark Skies (2013) by Mark W — 25 Mar 2015
"Dark Skies" has substantial trouble attempting to build any sort of real suspense. 30 minutes in we are teased with a few dark hallways, a screaming child, and a bird strike of unknown cause. These actually sound better on paper than the movie even portrays them. While the acting is passable, Josh Hamilton and his co-stars simply are given too little to work with.
"Dark Skies" does feature some novel, but quickly fleeting, special effects that help maintain some interest, but the viewer is kept waiting far too long as this film keeps rolling.
In the end, the lack of depth, sufficient direction, and pace leaves "Dark Skies" lacking and only mildly entertaining.
