Review of Dark Shadows (2012) by London J — 19 Feb 2014
The trick to loving this movie is to realize that "Dark Shadows" was nothing more than a campy soap opera under the guise of a horror saga... Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows" is an even Campier Soap Opera story with some horror elements. The problem with adapting a soap opera to a film is that soap operas usually have many storylines that intersect at points.. and to have a character with a back story like Barnabus, as well as the story of his family.. throw in Angelique, Dr Hoffman, Victoria (who, has her own soap opera story) and you have a LOT to squeeze into 2 hours.
It's a fun and silly ride dark humor, silly gags, and a bit of slapstick with some blood splatters here and there. Nothing phenomenal.. but very enjoyable if you don't have any expectations based on the original.
