Review of Dark Reel (2008) by Tobias L — 03 Apr 2009
What a fantastic film, with a great ensemble cast. Henriksen, Todd, Riffel, Furlong, Walter and my personal favourite (and the reason I watched the film) Tiffany Shepis. This film starts off in the 1950s, where struggling actress Scarlet May being dismembered before the cameras.
Fast forward to present day and we see the inner workings of a low budget film studio churning out such classics as Gnome Killer and Snakes on a Crane. But when fan boy Adam Waltz (Furlong) wins a walk on part in the film Pirate Wench.
Strange things begin to happen and a masked psycho starts bumping cast members off. What follows is a gore and giggle fest. Red herrings galore keep whose the killer ticking until the end. Jake Grace and Henriksen have the best roles, clearly played for laughs.
Shepis even manages to portray some romantic connectivity with Furlong. All in all a solid horror story with plenty of comic moments. Brilliant.
