Review of Dark Places (2015) by Jennifer T — 11 Oct 2015
Dark Places is rushed, flat, and completely disjointed. Gillian Flynn's other screen adaptation, Gone Girl, was 2 1/2 hours long and it worked perfectly. Dark Places is just as complex, and you need to prolong it a bit to fully develop all the characters and flashbacks/flashforwards.
It may have read well on paper and the talented cast does everything they can, but Gilles Paquet-Brenner's adaptation is a huge disappointment. Watch Gone Girl instead. Now THAT is incredible.
