Review of Dark Matter (2008) by Heidi G — 14 Aug 2009
An interesting story for those in academia, especially those in physics or astronomy and going into or already in graduate school. The particular storyline is a rather mundane topic, choosing a dissertation, yet in this case the brilliant student threatens to outshine his adviser and the adviser, threatened, reacts as he sees fit.
The student is Chinese, and the film offers a glimpse into the thinking of Chinese grad students in America (unless that was all made up without actually consulting grad students). The acting is fairly good, and the film (surprisingly) features Meryl Streep.
Nevertheless, it's kind of boring with a rather unbelievable ending. Definitely not a film that would interest most people, but some would like it.
