Review of Dark City (1998) by Cyborg U — 18 Jul 2012
Dark City might seem more style than substance, but it's mostly due to the fact that nothing there is real, not even it's inhabitants. Once you realize and accept that, it feels less like a British made-for-TV movie, and more like what it really is; a noir thriller in space, a genre that sadly one cannot devote much shelf space to because it is mostly non-existant.
The main character's journey is quite Dickian, as he travels through a city continuously changing, moving, and morphing into a crazy convoluted Gotham City, is unsure of who to trust, and unsure of his own sanity. Sutherland seems kind of awkward at first but after awhile I got used to him. The rest of the cast does great as well. And the ending is just beautiful, feels classic!
