Review of Dark City (1998) by Luke C — 24 Apr 2012
A very intriguing and surreal tale that even though was a bit rough around the edges was still a very thought provoking story. The plot to this film opens up with what is sure to captivate the audience because of all the questions that run through your mind about what is going on.
Fortunately at the end pretty much all questions are answered, aside from those that posed little relevance for what Proyas was aiming for. Proyas does a good job at making the viewer interested in what is happening to Murdoch because of his constant use of setting up scenes as he slowly pieces together why he is an amnesiac and so on.
By the end a twist is shown, and although it was very clever and unexpected I believe it would have been more effective if Proyas SPOILER ALERT would have made the relationship between Kiefer and Rufus more stronger or even pose as enemies like Darth & Luke in Star Wars.
SPOILER ALERT OVER Overall this film is very clever and will surely keep you interested but it feels like much longer than it is and sometimes can bore the viewer with it's Neo-Noir style pacing.
