Review of Dark City (1998) by Liam G — 09 Jul 2010
Dark City was Made in 1998 with Alex Poryas as the Director. The story follows a character John Murdoch from the point where he awakens in a bathroom with no clue or requelection of who he is and what he is doing there he starts following little clues like photos and initials which then throw him into a spiral of cunfusion. You as the viewer can't help but share this with him. After this he is approached by these mysterious people known as the strangers who can make the whole town stop at a certain time and alter it as they please all with the power of will this unfolds into john trying to remember who he is and why nobody can tell him how to leave the city. The city itself is gloomy dark and yet as it changes infront of you, you can't help but stare in awe as for the characters.
Rufus Sewell was a very enjoyable and intresting character as John Murdoch you can't help but feel for him as everything unravels infront of him his co-stars William Hurt as the inspector Keifer Sutherland as the "Doctor" Jennifer Connelly all help the story evolve and do a great job with their characters. Alex Poryas does an terrific Job with this movie and delievers in nearly every way by far his best movie.
This film seems to get compared to the Matrix in most reviews saying that this film either saying the Matrix is far superior or vice versa but in my opinion they are Both just as good as each other with a very interesting story very good dialouge and acting to drive it forward my final verdict is that Dark City is a Must see movie for film fans in General.
