Review of Dark City (1998) by Angel R — 02 Oct 2010
I can't believe I just found out and saw this film for the first time ever. I've been watching movies quite a long time and looking for some good ones. This one was considered the best film of 1998 by film critic Roger Ebert and found out something about it and then watched it afterwards. Surprisingly, it was really good and great sci-fi flick. I also found out that this was the movie to inspire â??The Matrixâ?? (a year after it was released), actually it is, because of some things that you see more when you watch this. Speaking of â??The Matrixâ??, this film has a lot of very thematic elements such as those bad guys, they represent the evil or the ones who would destroy the future of the human race, we also have John Murdock (as the main character who has his memory got loss) as the one person who could save the humanity by defeating those evil people and at the same time get to save his stolen memory. The other supporting characters are the ones that tries to help remember something on Murdock's memory but still it is a mystery about his personality. â??Inceptionâ?? on the other hand, was very different to this one, that movie was very complex but this one is also complex but it made it look like â??The Matrixâ?? as very unique if this movie was not released or made.
I got a lot of things to say to â??Dark Cityâ??, so I'm going to say overall that I enjoy this sci-fi flick not only in the terms of fun and entertaining but also exuberant, thrilling, chilling, and at the same time, the twist at the end got my head blew away after all those fighting and chasing that was done throughout the movie. I think I should watch this movie twice to fully understand it because the 1st viewing is just an experience although it is not necessary, and also a sci-fi fan should this one at least once because this may be the new way of making the genre of sci-fi though there are a lot of great sci-fi flicks came out after â??Dark Cityâ?? like â??The Matrixâ??, â??Minority Reportâ??, â??I, Robotâ??, and the recent â??Inceptionâ??. I have to admit, YES if I'm gonna put â??The Matrixâ?? as the top sci-fi movie of the 1990's, well I am so wrong, â??Dark Cityâ?? is now the top sci-fi movie of the 90's, still â??The Matrixâ?? is 2nd best so don't cry!!
