Review of Dark City (1998) by Joe M — 11 Jul 2011
Dark City.
Dark City is a surreal neo noir that mixes the mystery narratives of Hollywood's dark noir of the 40s and 50s, while providing the technological flashiness of the modern Hollywood blockbuster with a touch of sci-fi, to deliver a very entertaining and engrossing piece of cinema. Through solid performances from the main cast and an array of stunning visuals and existential themes, the film brings Noir's dark and gloomy presence back into the late 90's continuing the debate as to where and if there ever will be one confined era of cinema designated to the film Noir.
