Review of Dark City (1998) by Teo V — 31 May 2013
Don't watch it in the day. I couldn't see what was going on half the time. This is a dark movie. Literally. There is no sun.
It was so nice to see something a little bit more imaginative onscreen, and also the fact that there is not that much CGI work here, it really made a difference. The set design is beautiful, and the colour scheme interesting also.
I was honestly gripped, as I had no idea which way it was going to go, and it just felt a little more original- the film reminded me of a low budget Spanish silent film named 'The Aerial' or 'La Antena', which I also recommend.
The only problem is that it does seem to slightly fall apart in the third act, and becomes a little silly. But for the most part I really enjoyed it, as it twists and turns, and although there are some familiar ideas in there- it is mostly an original, attractive film.
