Review of Daredevil (2003) by Rob A — 28 Apr 2012
This is a Review of the 2004 Director's Cut.
If ever there was a franchise that was in dire need of a real reboot, Daredevil would be at the top of my list. Ben Affleck was a fantastic Matt Murdock -the lawyer alter ego. But SO unbelievable as the Man Without Fear in that costume. It was an inspired move but I just did not buy into it.
Jennifer Garner as Elektra...ok it was a stretch but ok she was able to convince me though her backstory needed A LOT of improvement.
Michael Clarke Duncan (despite the change in race from the original character) was a great Kingpin and I only wish he had had more screen time.
Then there is Colin Farrell. I truly believe this man was the only one who understood what movie he was in. If Daredevil is ever remade, I would GLADLY welcome him back to the role of Bullseye. Menacing, scary & Irish to boot, he was the only convincing character in the whole movie.
The Directors Cut is much darker, the violence more intense and the whole sub-plot with Coolio restored. A vast improvement (but still with major glaring flaws) over the theatrical release.
