Review of Danton (1983) by Randolph G — 08 Sep 2008
Power and leadership are analyzed in this slow film, which moves in its own direction, shows what it wants to show, and features some powerful images (particularly the ending, which I loved). The good set and costume design are shot in a beautiful way.
The score is brooding and perhaps excessive for some viewers, but very good in my opinion. Depardieu gives a fine performance indeed, although a bit too showy. The eccentricities of his character allows him to do so, though.
So, it's a very good movie, not great, and gives a lot to think about afterwards.
