Okay, so for the first draft of the script they must have pretty much just crossed out the word shark and replaced it with the word volcano - but as it goes it's a decent slow boil with fun set pieces, likable characters and wicked effects (Asside from some model work which doesn't really hold up anymore).
It is trash but it's fun trash.
