Review of Dante's Peak (1997) by Cody S — 18 Oct 2008
Watching this movie has been a vexation and it has nothing to do with its release date (1997).
The screenwriter regurgitated old formula : early warnings fell on deaf ears, late evacation. He also chose to focus on irritating kids disobeying orders and stubborn old woman who aggravated the disaster. Unaware that by doing so, it became such annoying that we only hope that these characters could be gone sooner.
It was so predictable that I kept fast forwarding my remote control.
PS : the final scene with 60 circa rescurers cheering and clapping a kissing couple doesn't exist in reality. Come on, nobody is going to do that during a disaster. This is not an action/adventure film anymore. It has become science fiction.
