When a scenic mountain town at the foot of a volcano is nominated as the second best place to live under population 20,000 the mayor(Linda Hamilton) finds out that the volcano may have an event soon. Pierce Brosnan is the volcanist sent to check out the status of the volcano.

He quickly finds himself in a possible serious situation and calls a town meeting to warn the town of impending doom. The movie is a little slow at times and somewhat mundane with the character side stories.

But When the volcano gets involved the movie really gets going. Of all the possible volcanic flows the Pyroclastic is by far my favorite. It's not a slow moving lava like the movie Volcano but a devastating cloud of ash, hot gas and rock traveling at about 450 mph leveling anything in its path.

And if that's not enough there are huge bombs of rock and lava that fly out and when they land they explode and cover anything in the area with molten hot magma.
