Review of Danny Collins (2015) by Christopher C — 27 Mar 2015
Al Pacino comes through with a good performance as the title character in this "based on a true story: sort of" film. Forty years after a magazine interview where his music was compared to John Lennon, he is given a letter on his birthday that Lennon wrote to him that was never delivered. The letter is a life changing event as Collins sets out to change his life.
He meets his son and granddaughter. He holes up in a New Jersey Hilton and begins to write music again while hitting on the manager played by Annette Bening. He helps his son go through chemo etc.
There are some truly funny moments in the movie. Christopher Plummer, Jennifer Garner and Bening provide some great comic lines as respectively Collins manager, daughter in law and potential love interest.
The film was a a generally fun and a worthwhile time leaving with you a good feeling.
