Review of Danny Collins (2015) by Tatsuhito K — 02 Jan 2016
I liked where it was going and I had no problem with its overly familiar narrative, until it became too predictable and a little cliched. Al Pacino is charming as ever and it has a great supporting cast, but certain events in the film, particularly the whole subplot about his illegitimate son's illness, seemed too contrived.
Overall, it is heartwarming at times and a decent directorial debut for Dan Fogelman. Danny Collins has a lot of problems, but Pacino's performance and John Lennon's songs make up for its flaws.
