Review of Dangerous Liaisons (1988) by Stephanie D — 10 Apr 2018
The ultimate 'cool girl' fail, the Marquise plays the 'I can be as cruel as any man' game to its inevitable, bitter end; while Valmont, the inveterate womanizer, finds his humanity too late, at the expense of yet another woman.
Beautiful direction, excellent performances, smart and not overly didactic dialogue, and a storyline that will stay with you. Compare with the far inferior and clumsy Valmont (1989).
