Glenn Close devours this whole while John Malkovich gives the performance of a lifetime. The movie is dark, slow and formulaic, but the characters are riveting. Pfeiffer has a lousy character and gets lost in the action, but a young Uma Thurman and a young Keanu Reeves add an exceptional dimension to this epic intrigue movie.
