Superbly elegant adaptation of a true classic, this remains Stephen Frears crowning achievement. Glenn Close gives her greatest performance (she clearly should have won the Oscar) and John Malkovich is an intriguing match.
Fine support from Michelle Pheiffer and veteran actress Mildred Natwick + lush Oscar-winning costumes and sets makes this a winner.
