A deftly crafted period piece by acclaimed director Stephen Frears that is particular memorable for its Oscar-caliber performances, intriguing plot riddled with intrigue and deception, and a truly brilliant script.
The performances, particular by Malkovich, Close, and Pfeiffer are astounding. The screenplay was simply chilling at times, but I felt as though the narrative had its lulls and times of complete inanity.
It takes a great deal of patience to endure a period piece, but this is certainly one worth watching just for the performances.
