A very original period drama that explores some interesting ideas about love, devotion, seduction and revenge. Everybody in this film is either a bastard, a bitch or a saint, and they all suffer in equal measure.
John Malkovich's character is brutal, elegant, charming, despicable and ultimately unforgettable.
