Interesting and in some ways Shakesperean in tone. A complicated series of relationships and affairs that basically serve the purposes of Marquise de Merteuil (Glenn Close) and Vicomte de Valmont (John Malkovich).

Their purposes range from revenge to desire. Caught up in their own self importance Mereuil and Valmont destroy the lives of others around for what appears to be simple pleasure of watching others break apart.

They are both truly a despictable form of human being. The movie is an interesting on commentary on human relationships, gender roles and ultimately what makes us happy. Sexual tension is used to keep the audience interested - and admittedly it works.

The story is interesting and the ending is somewhat unexpected. The dialogue is great. And the acting is even better. The only complaint might be that the movie trips over its own complexity - the story can be hard to follow.

Over all though a suprisingly good movie.
