Review of Danger: Diabolik (1968) by Harry W — 12 Aug 2013
Many people point to Danger: Diabolik as one of the early pisstakers in the spoof genre. However, I don't know if that's entirely the case or not as I'm not quite sure what Mario Bava's intentions were.
I know he was given a small budget and did the best he could with it, but as far as the film's tone and final product, I don't know if the hilarity was intentional or not. John Phillip Law is just a terrible actor, let's just get that right off the bat.
And casting him in the lead just made things wrong from the get-go. Marisa Mell offers some lovely eye candy, and we get a handful of familiar faces from the British acting world. The film is also famous for a couple of other reasons.
One being that the Beastie Boys used some footage from the movie for their music video to Body Movin'. The other is that it was featured on the final episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Overall, the movie isn't quite the laughfest that I expected, but it's worth a watch.
