Review of Dances with Wolves (1990) by Nick K — 13 May 2010
Initially while watching about the first 2/3 of this movie I couldn't help but think that it was nothing more than the story of a white man living with Native Americans. But during the final third of the movie it occurred to me that this IS the story of a white man living with Native Americans in harmony, a small sliver of an example of what could have been if the frontier wasn't destroyed and the "Hostiles" weren't forced to submit to white men.
Like the very touching end where Wind in His Hair cries out that Dances With Wolves/John will always be his friend, all of us as Americans could have lived together in union with its native people.
