Review of Dances with Wolves (1990) by Calvin C — 15 Oct 2011
Kevin Costner seems to like making LONG (epic) films.
More often than that, that seems to backfire (Waterworld, anyone?), but when it works, it works well - this is perhaps the best known example of that latter case, with Costner starring as the Union soldier who moves to a frontier fort, enocunters the Sioux Indians and slowly becomes assimilated into their culture. Containing numerous visually stunning shots, complimented by some soaring music, it's no wonder that this is still viewed by many to be Costner's best film (and obviously had an impact on James Cameron - watch Avatar to see what I mean!).
