Review of Dances with Wolves (1990) by Bartos Macovei G — 20 Dec 2009
This is Costner's Braveheart. In the tradition of Jeremiah Johnson and A Man Called Horse, a Hollywood western told from the Indian point of view.
Although personally I am not a big fan of Costner one must acknowledge the good job he has done delivering a finely told story which can stir feelings of joy, sympathy and sadness in this story of the western Indian and their callous and inevitable displacement by the eventual western expansion of the United States.
The tale is both well told and beautifully photographed with an eye for detail that makes this film rise with vibrant realism.
Very enjoyable and a definite modern classic.
