Review of Dances with Wolves (1990) by Lord N — 05 May 2010
This film was the first great movie that Kevin Kostner directed...It's also his last one as it were. That aside, this film had a great message, some spectacular cinematograpy, and some decent acting on the whole.
My favorite scene in the whole movie (and with a lot of people) is the buffalo hunt scene. that was amazing. the end fight scene was decent too. I chuckled a bit when that last Pawnee indian is surrounded by the 20 or so Souix indians with guns and he knows he's totally screwed so he war whoops and charges and is blasted away by everyone.
The acting wasn't that great. this film didn't deserve any acting awards (it didn't win any). I also feel that this film didn't deserve Best Picture. It didn't age well and it has only been 20 years.
everyone feels that it is over rated. I saw this Far Side comic where it was 3 people at the Didn't Like Dances With wolves society ant the people there wer complaining about the cavalry being insensitive and the buffalos being killed and how it was fake.
this comic was written in 1990 I'm sure. now it would be more people I'm sure. One thing that is interesting, Marlon Brando denied his Oscar for the Godfather becasue of unfair treatment of Indians in film.
I would have been interested to see what he thought of this movie. Final Verdict: Mistake. it was good but not that good. Replacement Winner: Goodfellas.
