Review of Dances with Wolves (1990) by Todd A — 10 Mar 2011
The one reason that Dances with Wolves works better than all the other copy cats (Poccohontas, Last Samurai, Avatar) is because it doesn't have some social message to prove. It's not trying to say how one type of culture is better than the other, it is just showing how two different people can interact in harmony.
The story is well told, though most likely a half hour longer than it needed to be, and it is well preformed and builds up to a an ending that does not paint the white man as the savior of his a adopted race.
