Review of Dancer in the Dark (2000) by Andrew B — 04 Dec 2009
A film that has famously divided audiences and critics (love it or hate). I really liked it! The wonderful colour of the dream/dance sequences and the quick editing was impressive. The tragic story of Selma is moving and the weepy ending had a staggering effect.
A very carefully constructed work of art from Von Trier, that mixes the Hollywood genres of the melodrama and musical to perfection...this is a woman that rejects the typical female protagonist of the melodrama, to be in a musical.
..and ultimately to save her son from a problematic illness. Of course if u like Bjork, it will also be a winner!
