Without a doubt one of the most painful films I have ever watched. It absolutely tears your heart out, but does so with an incredible touch of beauty. The juxtaposing of enchanting musical numbers with the horrors of reality screws with your emotions in ways you never thought possible, but you find yourself being grateful for the experience.
An instant favorite, though I can't imagine watching it too many more times due to the sheer emotional investment involved.
